TCBuen adds a fourth crane to handle next-generation ships in Buenaventura
TCBuen, the container terminal located in Buenaventura (Colombia) owned by Grup TCB, has begun operating its new Super Post-Panamax gantry crane, the one with the greatest capacity and operating range in the Port of Buenaventura. This acquisition is part of the second phase of development which the company has undertaken to double its capacity to 610,000 TEUs handled annually, the company said in its press release.
Manufactured by ZPMC, the new crane can service ships 22 containers wide and has a height of 43 meters under the spreader. With this acquisition, TCBuen aims to increase the efficiency and productivity of the container terminal. The characteristics of the new crane, which joins the three existing ones, allow for next-generation ships to be loaded and unloaded more productively and with improved operation times. This cuts back on ships’ length of stay, resulting in greater efficiency and reduced costs for all customers.
The second phase of development for the Buenaventura Container Terminal will be fully operational in August. In addition to technological innovation and the incorporation of the latest developments in machinery, the development involves expanding the capacity of the container yard.
TCBuen is a strategic location for international trade, since it is located in the most important port on the Pacific coast of Colombia, connecting North and South America, the Panama Canal and the Far East. The new features at TCBuen will help further develop and reinforce the strategic position of this port.
