Ports of Auckland welcomes 10 year charter between Seafuels and Z Energy
Ports of Auckland welcomes a major agreement which will provide convenient and safe bunkering for marine fuel customers in port, the company said in its press release.
Seafuels, a 50:50 joint venture between Ports of Auckland and PB Bunkers BVI Ltd, announced that they have signed a new 10 year charter agreement with Z Energy for the fuel bunkering vessel Awanuia.
Awanuia is the only powered marine fuel oil vessel in New Zealand. Based in Auckland, the Awanuia collects marine fuel oils from the Marsden Point Refinery and refuels vessels in both Auckland and Marsden Point.
The long-term partnership between the two local companies, Seafuels and Z Energy, provides certainty of fuel supply for ships calling Auckland; essential to the continued success of the port and meeting Auckland’s growing freight demand.
“Continuing the long-term charter with Z Energy is good news for the port, their customers and New Zealand. Awanuia is state-of-the-art and the only powered marine fuel oil vessel operating in New Zealand. It is a substantial asset for the sea trade in New Zealand” says Seafuels chairman Wayne Mills.
As the charter was announced, Z Energy also acknowledged Seafuels for reaching two years of operation with no lost time injuries incurred.
“Prioritising safety is critical to how we do business. Our staff and the Awanuia crew have worked very hard to achieve this milestone and I would like to congratulate them on their success,” says Mills.
