Port of Gothenburg gets IAPH's best communications award
The Port of Gothenburg came away with gold when the international port organisation IAPH presented the award for the best communications initiative of the year. It won the award for its 'Made in Sweden' web concept, the port's press-release said.
'Made in Sweden' is a web solution that in a simple yet effective way demonstrates the importance of an efficient logistics chain and the significance of the Port of Gothenburg to Swedish industry. The series focuses on Swedish export companies and their products, including Absolut Vodka, Billerud Korsnäs and Volvo, to demonstrate how the products are transported by sea to cities such as New York, London and Tokyo.
The Port Communications Award was established in 2011 to enhance communication at the world's ports and to highlight the impact of innovative communication when explaining how essential ports are to world development.
"We are absolutely delighted and very proud indeed to receive this prestigious award. Hopefully it will inspire other ports to reach out with their message about the importance of ports to the local and international community," said Cecilia Carlsson, Vice President Communications, Port of Gothenburg.
IAPH is an international association of ports and maritime organisations. The association has around 350 members from some 90 countries. IAPH promotes collaboration between ports, acts as a consultative body for the UN and plays a key role in developing international trade and maritime policy.
The Port of Gothenburg is the largest port in the Nordic region. 30 per cent of Swedish foreign trade passes through the Port of Gothenburg as well as 60 per cent of all container traffic.
The Port of Gothenburg is the only port in Sweden with the capacity to receive the world's largest container vessels and has the broadest range of shipping routes within and outside Europe. The 25 rail shuttles that depart each day mean that companies throughout Sweden and Norway have a direct, environmentally smart link to the largest port in the Nordic region. The Port of Gothenburg has terminals for oil, cars, ro-ro, containers and passengers.
