Alfa Laval gets order from Daewoo Shipbuilding to supply fuel-conditioning systems for gas-driven vessels
Alfa Laval – a world leader in heat transfer, centrifugal separation and fluid handling – has won its first order for a completely new and very robust compact heat exchanger for gas-fuel conditioning from the Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME). The order, booked in the Marine & Diesel Equipment Segment, has a value of approximately SEK 24 million and deliveries will start already this year and are expected to be completed in 2016, the company said in its press release.
The innovative compact Alfa Laval heat exchanger, a new addition to the marine portfolio for alternative fuels, can handle temperatures and pressures far beyond other welded plate heat exchangers. In this case, they will have a dual functionality since they will be installed onboard six LNG carriers to be built by DSME. There, they will re-liquefy the boil off gas from the tanks and simultaneously condition the fuel gas for the engine. The new Alfa Laval heat exchangers are also very well suited for other gas-driven vessel types, such as tankers, container ships etc.
