Throughput of port Liepaja (Latvia) down 1.7% to 1.834 mln t in Jan-Apr’15
In January-April 2015, the port of Liepaja (Latvia) handled 1,834,800 t of cargo (-1.7%, year-on-year), IAA PortNews was informed by the port authority. Transshipment of grain fell by 8.2% to 916,800 t, construction materials – up 12.9% to 170,500 t, timber – up 45.7% to 212,000 t, oil – down 72.7% to 18,700 t, oil products down 18.4% to 66,100 t.
The port’s container throughput dropped by 18% to 1,045 TEUs. Transshipment of ro-ro cargo cargo declined by 1% to 10,728 units. Passenger turnover declined by 6% to 11,749 passengers. The number of calls fell by 7% to 457 calls.
The port of Liepaja is the third busiest port of Latvia. Half of its turnover is formed by oil products and dry loose cargo from CIS countries, mainly Belarus. In 2014, the port of Liepaja handled 5.29 mln tonnes of cargo.
