Project charter approved for Northern Latitudinal Railway
The charter has been approved for the investment project Northern Latitudinal Railway, says press center of the Ministry of Transport following the meeting held in the end of the previous week.
The meeting chaired by RF Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov was attended by his deputy Aleksey Tsydenov, Governor of the Yamal-Nenets autonomous region Dmitry Kobylkin, First Vice-President of Russian Railways Aleksandr Misharin, Director General of FGI Rostransmodernizatsia Ilya Gudkov, representatives of Gazprom and other parties involved in the project.
Maxim Sokolov said all the project participants should consolidate most of their efforts amid challenging economic situation and limited budget allocations planned under the federal special-purpose programme “Development of RF Transport System”.
“Without any doubt we should move forward. The crisis period is the right time to start such large-scale projects. They can give a new impetus and accelerate the development of both economic and geopolitical position of Russia amid the global changes. First of all, the project will link Yamal with the ports and the railway network of Russia”, the Minister said.
The official reminded that the Ministry of Transport is the project coordinator and underlined the significance of collaboration between all the stakeholders.
Dmitry Kobylkin said it is essential to correlate the project with the development of port Sabetta. According to him, the Ministry of transport is the main synchronizer. “Investors should see the significance of the project to get interested in it,” the Governor added.
The Northern Latitudinal Railway is one of the priority projects contributing to the development of Russia’s Arctic zone. The project is being implemented in the Yamal-Nenets autonomous region provides for the construction of a 700-km long railway Obskaya-Salekhard-Nadym-Pangody-Novy Urengoi-Korotchayevo.
The project is aimed at linking the Northern and the Sverdlovsk railways as an element of a unified Arctic transport system and infrastructure contributing to the development of Russia’s potential in the Arctic area. When implemented, the project will considerably reduce the length of transport routes from the West Siberia fields to the ports of the Baltic Basin.
The project will be financed by the federal and regional budgets as well as the resources of Russian Railways, Gazprom and private investors attracted through the private-public partnership.
