Karelia head says reviving Onega shipyard set to lay down three new vessels
Onega Shipyard in May 2015 plans lay keels of three new vessels, the Republic of Karelia head said.
"We have very good position in shipbuilding. After two years of hard struggle with corporate raiders who seized control of Onega shipbuilding plant we have managed to return it to the state ownership. Today, Onega shipyard is engaged in recruitment process", the Kremlin press office quoted the head of the Republic of Karelia Alexander Khudilainen as saying at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on March 11, 2015.
Keel-laying of new vessels in 2015 will allow the enterprise to generate at least 600 jobs, the official said adding that once there were 1,200 jobs at the shipyard.
Onega Shipyard was founded in 1944. The company is located on the shores of Lake Onega in Petrozavodsk. The shipbuilding company was dedicated to construction of export dry bulk carriers, as well as other merchant cargo and passenger ships.
