Icebreaker Krasin returns to Saint-Petersburg after repair in Kronshtadt
On November 28, 2014, icebreaker Krasin returned to the Lieutenant Schmidt Embankment in Saint-Petersburg after routine maintenance at Kronshtadt Shipyard, IAA PortNews was informed by Baltic Fleet, the icebreaker’s agency company.
Baltic Fleet LLC was in charge of tugging the icebreaker. Three tugboats of the company were involved: Taifun, Akmal and Muson. .
The Krasin left the Saint-Petersburg for Kronshtadt on September 20, 2014. Tugging assistance was also provided Baltic Fleet LLC.
Dockside repair of the Krasin has been performed under technical supervision of Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS). This work is considered to be one of the prime activities preparing the icebreaker for her 100-year anniversary which will be celebrated in 2017.
The repair included the following operations: hull cleaning and multi-layer painting, rust removal from ballast tanks and certain activities related to the vessels engineering infrastructure.
Kronshtadt Shipyard is currently repairing cruiser Aurora.
Icebreaker Svyatogor (Krasin) is the second Arctic icebreaker of Russia. The icebreaker was built in 1917 in Newcastle for the Imperial Russian Navy.
