Steel cutting ceremony held at Vyborg Shipyard for icebreaking supply vessel of project NB 511 under the order of Sovcomflot
Steel cutting ceremony took place at the Vyborg Shipyard (Leningrad region) for the multifunctional icebreaking supply vessel of project NB 511 under the order of Sovcomflot, the shipyard told IAA PortNews.
Vyborg Shipyard is building these vessels in cooperation with Arctech Helsinki Shipyard (AHS). Vyborg Shipyard says it will build blocks and sections of the supply vessel intended for Sakhalin-2 operated by Sakhalin Energy.
Sovcomflot has already been operating supply vessels Aleksey Chirkov and Vitus Bering built by Vyborg Shipyard and Arctech Helsinki Shipyard.
The design and the equipment of the vessel allow for round-the-year transfer of platform crew and supply materials as well as for participation in rescue operations.
Vessel’s length – 99.9 m, breadth - 21 m, draught – 7.6 m, depth – 9.75 m, displacement – about 9,800 t, deadweight – 3,000 t. Crew - 28, personnel - 42.
The vessels of the series are the most energy efficient, in terms of their diesel consumption and propulsion systems. Their hulls are specially designed for stern-first navigation in icy conditions. The new ‘standby’ ISBVs are equipped with dynamic positioning systems, which help them maintain a stable position alongside offshore platforms. The ice class ensures safe navigation in one year solid ice of over 1.5 meters thick.
Vyborg Shipyard OJSC is one of the largest shipbuilding companies of the North-Western Region of Russia with over 60-years’ experience in shipbuilding. Vyborg Shipyard is a member of the United Shipbuilding Corporation from 2012. Today the Shipyard specializes in building drilling rigs for offshore deposits development, vessels of small and medium tonnage as well as ship repair.
Arctech Helsinki Shipyard Inc. specializes in arctic shipbuilding technology, e.g. building icebreakers and other arctic offshore and special vessels. The shipyard is a forerunner in developing and applying technological innovations and has almost 150 years’ experience in shipbuilding. Arctech employs approximately 450 shipbuilders. Arctech is a 50/50 owned JV of STX Finland Oy and Russian United Shipbuilding Corporation. The joint venture agreement was signed in December 2010.
