Rosmorrechflot’s expert council approves Krylov Center’s design of new shallow-water icebreaker (photo)
Expert council of the Federal Marine and River Transport Agency’ Board has approved the design of a of new 10-MW shallow-water icebreaker developed by Krylov State Research Center, IAA PortNews journalist reports from the council meeting. The vessel is intended for operation in the Azov Sea and the Caspian Sea.
As Aleksandr Davydenko, head of the Federal Marine and River Transport Agency (Rosmorrechflot), told IAA PortNews, Russia needs 6 icebreakers of this type. They are supposed to be built under the federal special-purpose programme.
The icebreaker designed to the class of Russian Maritime Register of Shipping is 78.1 meters long. Her breadth is 16.8 meters, draught – not less than 3 meters, ice trafficability – up to 1 meter, speed - 14 knots, crew - 24. Icebreaker is to be fitted with fire-fighting equipment, drone platform, air cushion boat for 8 persons, cargo crane for 20-foot containers.
The icebreaker can run on both diesel fuel and liquefied natural gas. The construction is estimated at RUB 2.250 bln. The vessel can be built in Russia, by Krasnoye Sormovo or Oka shipyard.
