Throughput of port Riga (Latvia) up 15.8% to 23.46 mln t in Jan-July’14
In January-July 2014, the Freeport of Riga (Latvia) handled 23,046,400 t of cargo (+15.8%, year-on-year). As IAA PortNews was informed by the port authority, coal transshipment climbed by 8.6% to 8,479,700 t, oil products – up 38% to 6,161,300 t, timber – up 3.3% to 1,248,300, wood pellets – down 42.9% to 316,400, scrap metal – up 13.1% to 608,500 t, ore – up 9.1% to 211,200 t.
The port’s container throughput increased by 0.8% to 218,135 TEUs. Passenger turnover climbed by 2.2% to 506,624 persons including 43,220 cruise passengers (-11.6%).
Freeport of Riga lies on both banks of the River Daugava covering 6.3 hectares. The port’s berth length is 13,800 meters, maximum draft at the berths is 12.2 meters. Up to 80% of the Freeport of Riga cargo turnover is made up of transit cargoes forwarded to or received from the CIS countries. In 2013, the port’s throughput declined by 1.6%, year-on-year, to 35,466,700 t of cargo.
