Dmitry Medvedev signs Decree on expansion of water area of port Kavkaz
Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has signed a Decree on expansion of the water area of port Kavkaz in order to increase transshipment of Russian cargoes with the use of large capacity storage vessels from 7 to 15-20 mln t. The Decree is published at the website of RF Government.
The Decree on introduction of amendments into the Governmental Decree dated August 12, 2009 was drafted by the Ministry of Transport.
In order to increase off-harbour transshipment and create a deepwater district for cargo transshipment to large capacity vessels, the port’s water area now includes an additional area southward of port Taman water boundaries (section No 3). This area covering 18.4 m2 has the depth of 26 to 27.6 m. It is within the zone supervised by the vessel traffic control system. Up to 15–18 additional anchoring berths will be used for cargo transshipment to large capacity vessels.
Port Kavkaz is located at the north-east coast of the Black Sea, on the eastern side of the Kerch Strait. It operates from 1953. The port services regular lines transporting passengers and automobiles across the Kerch Strait.
