Theft of oil product from Russia’s river transport costs one tanker volume per season, BV says
The scope of oil products theft from vessels operating at Russia’s inland water ways makes $0.5-$0.6 per tonne, or 1 tanker per season, IAA PortNews journalist cites Victor Zhilin, Business Development Director of Inspectorate R (Bureau Veritas, BV), as saying at VIII annual international congress Oil Terminal held in Saint-Petersburg.
To minimize the risk of theft he recommended not to economize on surveyor’s services and to appeal to law-enforcement authorities though theft of oil products at river transport has become a well organized criminal business.
