FESCO Transportation Group completes Arctic navigation
FESCO Transportation Group has completed Arctic navigation within the framework of which the company participates in Northern delivery campaign and cargo shipping from the ports of Eastern Arctic, FESCO press center says.
Arctic navigation commenced on July 23, 2013 and lasted for 111 days, six days longer as compared with the previous year. The volume of cargo increased by 41% mainly driven by the development of mining-and-geological sector.
During the Arctic navigation the company carried 198,200 tonnes of cargo including 35,800 t of solid fuel, 12,500 t of liquid fuel and 149,900 t of other cargoes.
During the navigation, the icebreaker Admiral Makarov provided icebreaking assistance to 23 vessels on their 37 voyages. Besides, the navigation involved the company’s vessels of Arctic ice class – Vasily Burkhanov, Vasily Golovnin and FESCO Posiet, the Group’s new vessel. The Group’s vessels carried 24,000 t of cargo.
FESCO Transportation Group is traditionally an active participant of the Arctic navigation which starts in the second half of July and ends in late October. In the course of the Northern delivery campaign, the company supplies Chukotka with consumer goods, fuel, coal, foodstuffs and industrial products.
