U.S. Navy ship docks at Batumi Sea Port
US Navy command ship USS Mount Whitney arrived in Batumi on November 11 for a regularly scheduled port visit, says press center of Batumi Sea Port. This was the second visit of this ship to BSP. For the first time, USS Mount Whitney sailed into the Black Sea in 2008 in the aftermath of the war with Russia. The vessel delivered humanitarian aid then. The current visit is the recognition of the strategic partnership between the United States and Georgia, which has strengthened under the new government of Georgia. This visit serves to continue the efforts to build global maritime partnerships with Black Sea nations and improve maritime safety and security. The ship was visited by U/S ambassador to Georgia Mr. Richard Norland, Colonel Matt Dimmick and Head of government of Adjara Mr Archil Khabadze. On November 12, combined training exercises with the Georgian Coast Guard were held which comprised of fire-fighting, command and control, and information sharing exercises. USS Mount Whitney left Batumi on November 13.
