Throughput of Port Vysotsky up 58% to over 4 mln t in Jan-Oct’13
In January-October 2013, Port Vysotsky LLC handled 4,002,172 t of Russian thermal coal (+58%, year-on-year), the company says. In October, Port Vysotsky LLC handled 364,747 t of coal.
Port Vysotsky LLC operates at port Vysotsk (Leningrad region). It specializes in transshipment of Russian coal to the Western Europe. In 2012 the company’s turnover increased by 2.9% to 3,295,727 tonnes of coal. The port’s water area and the approach canal are 12.7 meters deep with the width of the canal totaling 200 metres. Maximal draft of vessels accepted in the port is 11.9 meters which enables the port to accept 45,000-dwt vessels. From August 2012 the company started handling Panamax size vessels. Every month the company handles up to 6 vessels of this type.
Handling of large capacity vessels not only let the company increase its throughput but also enabled it to expand the geography of Russian coal supplies. Earlier coal was exported from Vysotsk primarily to Finland and Germany while today it also goes the UK, Belgium, Netherlands, Italy and Spain.
