Geological works commence at future construction site of passenger terminal in Kaliningrad region
Geological works have commenced in Pionersky (Kaliningrad region) at the future construction site of the international passenger terminal with yacht moorage, the regional government announced following the meeting held recently.
The meeting was dedicated to the project on construction of a passenger terminal allowing to attract considerable private investments into the development of coastal territory and to solve issues related to accommodation of guests and participants of the World Football Championship 2018, who will arrive by cruise and passenger ships.
Currently, seaport of Kaliningrad is not able to accept large passenger ships and therefore loses its opportunity to work with passenger flows running to neighbor ports of Klaipeda and Gdynia. The international passenger terminal is to have two 300-meter long berths and two 170-meter long berths for ferries and cruise ships, as well as a yacht moorage for 300 anchor berths. The terminal is supposed to handle at least 400,000 persons per year. The terminal is to be based on the existing port infrastructure intended for servicing of fishing fleet. The project solutions are to take into consideration the possibility to continue servicing of fishing vessels.
