Vostochny coal terminal hits 10m tonne milestone
Year-to-date JSC Vostochny Port, the operator of a coal terminal based at Vostochny port, has loaded its 10 millionth tonne of export coal, the company said in a press release.
The seven-month volume was exported largely to the Asia-Pacific region.
41% of the commodity was exported to South Korea, another 27% - to Japan and 19% - to China. Of the volume more than 135,000 tonnes of coal were shipped to Magadan, under the Northern Deliveries contracts.
This year the terminal operator’s productivity figure corresponds to the 2012 results: the terminal reached the 10 millionth milestone in the third week of July.
In 2012, the company handled more than 18 million tonnes of coal cargo, which accounts for 1/5 of all coal exports of Russian seaports, for about 37% of the cargo volumes at the ports of the Far Eastern basin.
JSC Vostochny Port is Russia's largest stevedoring company that specializes in handling of coal exports. The company operates two coal handling facilities. The first is a unique for the Primorsky Territory complex – nearly fully-automatic Specialized Coal Terminal with conveyor equipment and the railyard for unloading coal-laden cars. The facility capacity reaches 14.2 million tonnes a year. The second facility is Universal Handling Terminal specializing in unloading / loading coal by clamshell loaders with capacity of 3 million tonnes per year. The main cargo is coal mined in Russia’s Kuzbass region. Export coal makes up 98.5% of the total cargo volumes of the stevedore. Less than 1.5% account for short sea shipments of coal and 0.01% - for other goods. JSC Vostochn Port is managed by LLC Management Port Company.
