Vympel Shipyard to lay sea-going passenger vessel in Aug 2013 (graph)
Shipbuilding join-stock company Vympel based in Rybinsk, of Yaroslavl region plans to lay down a sea-going passenger hydrofoil of new Comet 120M class, the shipbuilder said on Friday. The keel-laying is scheduled for August 2013.
The vessel project was designed by the naval architecture firm, specializing in hydrofoil crafts the Central Design bureau of R. E. Alexeyev (CKB SPK).
The Company has invited Russian Minister of Transport Maxim Sokolov to attend the keel-laying ceremony. The official had seen the vessel design at the 6th International Maritime Defense Show (IMDS-2013).
Shipbuilding company Vympel was founded in 1930. Now it specializes in construction of medium tonnage and small-displacement vessels, river and sea-going ships and cutters, both military and civilian purposes. Since its inception the shipyard has manufactured more than 30,000 ships of various types. Over the past 40 years, the company delivered more than 1,800 boats to 29 countries in Europe, Middle East, Southeast Asia, Africa and South America.
Vympel is building serial missile warships and patrol boats, high-speed SAR boats, fire fighting tugs, hydrographic, fishing and other specialized vessels
