Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) held at its Ulsan yard a delivery and naming ceremony for a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier christened as "The Yenisei River," Gazprom Marketing & Trading (G M & T) said in a press release.
The Yenisei River has been charted by GM&T from Dynagas, a Greek owner and operator of LNG carriers for several years to ensure delivery of GM & T’s growing LNG volumes to global markets.
The LNG carrier is the second ship chartered by GM & T from the Greek owner after another tanker, the Ob River. In 2012 the Ob River became the first LNG carrier ever that sailed along the Northern Sea Route.
The christening ceremony was attended by several GM&T officials: CEO Vitaly Vasiliev, Managing Director of Global Shipping & Logistics Nikolai Grigoriev and Director of Global LNG Trading Jay Mistry. HHI and Dynagas were represented by Mr O. H. Kim, President & COO, Head of Shipbuilding / Offshore Engineering Division and by the Greek company’s founder Mr George Procopiou and its Commercial Director Mr Tony Lauritzen.
The Yenisei River features tri-fuel diesel-electric propulsion system, membrane tanks and cargo capacity of 155,000 cbm. The 1A Ice Class tanker is able to operate in harsh conditions of the Arctic and sail along the Northern Sea Route. The vessel will be operated by an international crew. The two LNG carriers were named after great Russian Siberian rivers.
Gazprom Marketing & Trading Limited (GM&T) was created in 1999. The company is a UK-registered, London headquartered wholly-owned subsidiary of OAO Gazprom (“Gazprom”).
