BMT recognised for innovation at the QLD Water Awards
BMT QLD awardsBMT WBM, a subsidiary of BMT Group Ltd, the leading international maritime design, environmental and engineering consultancy, has announced that it has won the Program Innovation Award at this year’s Australian Water Association’s (AWA) Queensland Awards, which were held recently in Brisbane. The Awards were established to celebrate and promote the outstanding work achieved by individuals and organisations in the water sector.
BMT was recognised for its Detailed Total Water Cycle Management Planning for Moreton Bay Regional Council. BMT assisted Australia’s third largest council with the development of a plan for the sustainable management of waterways in the Moreton Bay Region, one of the country’s fastest growing urban areas. The plan provides a framework for balancing growth with the local environment, including the identification of long-term strategies for maintaining and improving the health and quality of local waterways for future generations.
The plan comprises waterways, water supply, stormwater and wastewater networks in the region’s 13 catchment areas. It considers factors such as climate, geography, population growth, urban development, agriculture, industrial activities and local initiatives, to improve the region’s water efficiency. The plan was the first of its kind to be developed in South East Queensland, and will be a significant component of a new region wide planning scheme, currently being prepared by Moreton Bay Regional council.

BMT will now represent Queensland as a finalist in the AWA National Water Awards which takes place next year.
