Transport investigators probe into vessels collision killing a woman and child
Volga region Investigation Department for Transport of the Russian Federation Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case against Oleg Soldatkin, 35, suspected of committing an offense under Part 3. 268 of the Criminal Code (violation of rules of transport safe operation, resulting in the death of two or more persons), the RF IC press office said.
The collision of the cutter Amur with 7 passengers on board and steered by Oleg Soldatkin and the Volga Neft-165 tanker occurred on 21 July 2013 on the 1747th km stretch of the Volga River, near the Ganniy village of Samara region.
As a result, all the passengers of the boat, except for the suspect, were thrown into the water. As the passengers had no life jackets, a 2-year-old kid and a 47-year-old woman drowned while thee women and two little girls survived in the accident. Four days later the child’s body was found on the fairway of the Volga River.
