Severnaya Verf Shipyard lays keel of Project 20385 flagship Provorny (photo release)
An official keel-laying ceremony for “Provorny” (Agile), the lead ship in a series of corvettes of Project 20385, was held today at Severnaya Verf Shipyard, a correspondent of IAA PortNews reported from the ceremony.
The Project 20385 corvette was designed at the Almaz Central Marine Design bureau.
The high specification warship of near maritime zone is designed to combat surface ships, submarines, to provide air defense and artillery support for the landing and amphibious operations.
The St. Petersburg-based Severnaya Verf (Northern Shipyard) history dates back to 1912. Now it is a leading shipbuilding company of the Russian defense industry. The firm has been part of Moscow-headquartered United Industrial Corporation since 2004. The shipyard specializes in building cruisers, destroyers, minesweepers, patrol vessels and submarines destroyers, research and passenger vessels, timber cargo carriers, trawlers, container ships and ro-ro vessels for the Russian Defense Ministry and foreign customers.
Russian Government had picked Severnaya Verf Shipyard as the main contractor for the frigate and corvette class ships (Project 22350, Project 2038/20385). The company was also included in the register of the Federal Service for Defense Contracts (Rosoboronzakaz) of sole suppliers of Russian weapons and military equipment and is the sole contractor for communications ships of Project 18280.
