Throughput of Arkhangelsk seaport up 12.6% to 2.7 mln t in HI’13
In January-June 2013, the port of Arkhangelsk handled 2.7 mln t of cargo (+12.6%, year-on-year), IAA PortNews learnt from the port authorities. In the first half of 2013 transshipment of oil products surged 1.56 times to 1.47 mln t, coal- 1.77 times to 292,000 tonnes. At the same time, transshipment of incoming coastal trade cargo fell by 25% to 434,000 tonnes, including 350,000 tonnes delivered by river (-27%); outgoing coastal trade cargo declined by 32% to 216,400 tonnes.
In June, the port handled 423,000 tonnes (+11.8%).
The port of Arkhangelsk is the largest seaport in the Northern region of Russia. It was set up over 400 years ago in the estuary of the Severnaya Dvina flowing into the White Sea. The port provides round-the-year navigation. Icebreaking assistance is usually provided from mid January till mid April.
Seaport of Arkhangelsk accepts vessels of up to 9.2 meters in drauhgt, up to 175 meters long and up to 30 meters wide. The port comprises 151 berths with a total length of 17,548 meters, including 31 berths of timber industry companies, 22 berths of sea trade port, 6 berths of the river port, 3 berths of Rosneft-Arkhangelsknefteproduct OJSC engaged in export of oil and oil products, 2 berths of the fishing port and 87 minor berths of other companies. In 2012, the port of Arkhangelsk handled 5.58 mln t of cargo.
