Dredging of Sabetta approach canal to be commenced in late July’13
Dredging works in port Sabetta (Yamal) are expected to be commenced in late July 2013. According to the statement of FSUE Rosmorport, contractor will use 3 specialized dredgers of Jan De Nul Group (Belgium) designed for operation in remote high-latitude sea regions, 2 trailing dredgers and 12 other vessels of the Belgian company. For that purpose, RF Government Decree dated 04.07.2013 No 1128-r opens seaport Sabetta for foreign vessels.
The approach canal will be 4 km long, 420 m wide and have a seabed level of 12 m. The turning basin with a diameter of 446 m will also have a seabed level of 12 m. The pit for unloading of pontoons will have the dimensions of 189х254 m and a seabed level of 23.5 m.
The port is being built within the framework of Yamal LNG project.
Yamal LNG project envisages the construction of an LNG plant with annual capacity of 16.5 million tons per annum based on the feedstock resources of the South-Tambeyskoye field. According to the PRMS reserve standards, the proven and probable reserves of the South-Tambeyskoye field as of 31 December 2012 were appraised at 907 billion cubic meters of natural gas. The Project also requires the construction of transport infrastructure including a sea-port and an airport located at Sabetta (north-east of the Yamal Peninsula). Yamal LNG is currently owned by NOVATEK (80%) and TOTAL (20%).
