Fire on fore section of MOL Comfort damages cargo
The fire that broke out from the rear end of fore part of MOL Comfort (owned by Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd.) on July 6 has not been put out yet, as of 00:30 UTC July 9, the ship owner said in a press-release.
The containership’s hull fractured in 2 parts on the Indian Ocean on June 17. The fore part was being towed by a tug boat arranged by the salvage company.
One tug boat, two rescue boats and a patrol boat "SAMUDRA PRAHARI of the Indian Coast Guard have been responding to the fire.
However, due to adverse weather, the work has not been progressing smoothly and the fire is not yet under control. Observations show that many containers on the deck have been burnt out, the shipowner MOL said.
