Vostochny Port (Primorsk Territory) loaded 9 mln tonnes of coal from year beginning (photo)
Vostochny Port OJSC (Primorsk Territory) has reached a milestone result this week – from the beginning of 2013 it loaded 9 million tonnes of coal, announced the company.
Recent days have seen the transshipment of over 130,000 tonnes of coal to a Capesize class vessel at the berth No 49 of the coal complex. Two ship loading conveyors with a capacity of 3,000 tonnes per hour each filled the holds of a large capacity vessel Keoyang Orient which set off for S. Korea.
Naturally deep port Vostochny (up to 22 meters at the channel) is capable of handling giant vessels. The coal terminal of Vostochny Port handles 150,000-dwt vessels. It is the only port operator in Primorsk Territory able to handle dry cargo carriers of this class. This year, Vostochny Port handled eight large capacity vessels with deadweight exceeding 130,000 tonnes.
Dry cargo carrier Keoyang Orient is the 179th vessel loaded at the coal terminal from the start of the year. All in all, from January 4, the company handled 266 vessels including 67 Panamax vessels and 20 Capesize vessels.
JSC Vostochny Port is the major stevedoring company of Russia specializing in coal transshipment. As of today, export coal accounts for 98.5% of the company’s turnover with 1.5% of the coastal trade coal and 0.01% of other cargoes. The company’s assets include a Specialized Coal Terminal with conveyer equipment system and railcar unloading station and a Universal Handling Terminal which specializes in clamshell coal handling. The Terminals’ annual capacities are 14.2 mln tonnes and 3 mln tonnes respectively. JSC Vostochny Port operates a fleet of harbor tugs able to berth 150dwt ships. Throughput of Vostochny (excluding the results of Special Oil Port of Kozmino) climbed by 13.3% to 26.43 million tonnes in 2012.
