Reorganization of National Shipping Chamber completed
The process of reorganization of the National Shipping Chamber (NSC) through merger of the Association of Shipping Companies and the Union of Russian Shipowners has been practically completed. According to Russian Shipping website, this was announced by NSC President Aleksey Klyavin on July 3, 2013, at the extraordinary general meeting of NSC in Moscow.
“It can be stated that the major part of the way to merge the Association of Shipping Companies and the Union of Russian Shipowners has been passed,” he said.
RF Transport Ministry has once more announced its support of the newly established chamber of shipping. As it was emphasized by Victor Olersky, Deputy Transport Minister of Russia, “regulation and development are the first two principles of any industry. So the Ministry and the Shipping Chamber need to establish the closest cooperation in issues aimed at the improvement of the national legislation.”
The general meeting approved the fundamental document of the National Shipping Chamber: Statute on General Meeting, Statute on Chamber Membership, Statute on Council and Statute on Audit Comission.
The newly elected NSC Council numbers 25 persons representing the largest marine and river shipping companies of Russia and marine and river transport organizations including Sovcomflot OJSC, FESCO OJSC, FSUE Rosmorport, FSUE Atomflot, Sovfracht OJSC, Volga Shipping Company OJSC, Moscow River Shipping Company OJSC, North-Western Shipping Company OJSC, Azov-Don Shipping Company OJSC, Palmali Group, Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) and Russian River Register (RRR), Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping and CNIIMF CJSC.
As Ex-Minister of Transport Nikolai Tsakh commented on the establishment of the National Shipping Chamber “the merger of to industry-focused associations into a single chamber is a significant event, indeed. The interests of marine and river shipping are closely connected and the creation of a unified structure will contribute to mere efficient advancement of interests of Russia’s entire shipping community.”
Besides, the general meeting approved two new members of the Chamber – Ballast Ham Dredging LLC (representing international dredging company Van Oord in Russia) and Transoptimal SPb LLC. Today NSC numbers over 100 members.
