Turkish trade delegation visits port of Antwerp
On Thursday 27 June 2013 the Turkish minister of Economy, Mehmet Zafer Caglayan, had a meeting with Flemish minister-president Kris Peeters and Eddy Bruyninckx, CEO of Antwerp Port Authority. After the reception in Brussels the company travelled to Antwerp for a guided tour of the port. This was followed by a number of presentations and a reception in the Port House where the Turkish trade delegation was able to make acquaintance with the Antwerp port community. The trip concluded with a visit to the MSC Home Terminal in the Delwaide dock, said in the press release.
Antwerp is by far the most significant European port for Turkey. With an annual freight volume of more than 10 million tonnes travelling to and from Turkey, Antwerp has a market share of around 63%, ahead of all the other North-West European ports. Rotterdam and Le Havre follow a long way behind with 9% and 8% respectively. Antwerp Port Authority therefore attaches great importance to such commercial meetings and activities with its Turkish counterparts, in an effort to maintain and further develop this position.
