The Dubai Council for Marine & Maritime Industries holds membership meeting
The Dubai Council for Marine & Maritime Industries (DCMMI), the industry body representing the concerns of the marine and maritime industries today held its Second Membership Meeting at the Maritime Business Centre at Dubai Maritime City. The discussion revolved around the arriving at the Framework of the Council, controls and internal systems and affiliates, said in the company's press release.
A brief overview of the business processes and applications for membership and how to maximize the benefits of membership was discussed. The members highlighted some of the challenges and concerns before investors and the sustained interest from international institutions and companies keen on working in Dubai and entering into partnership with the Council. Other topics included members’ movement at regional and international levels; defining the Council for senior decision-makers from different sectors of the maritime industry and shipping. The Council announced the ‘Mare Forum 2014’ in Dubai and emphasized the importance of working for the success of the Forum and to provide all support for it.
The Council discussed recommendations made earlier and decided to take appropriate measures to accelerate and facilitate the growth of marine and maritime industries and attract investment from around the world and to stimulate cooperation and legal frameworks in line with the desired development of the most important sectors of the industry.
Khamis Juma Buamim, Chairman of the Council commended the pledge made by members for the Council’s success by creating a global platform for the development of marine and maritime industry and maximizing opportunities for investment and targeting different areas by including representation from different marine and maritime industry experts. The membership is constantly expanding and the preliminary expectation is that the membership will swell to 1600 within the next two years.
Three committees were approved, these includes: Technical Committee under the chairmanship of Mr. Juma Obaid Mubarak, Legal Committee, chaired by Ms. Jasamin Fichte, Corporate Affairs Commission and Relationships under the chairmanship of Mr. Ali AlSuwaidi.
The participants stressed the commitment to creating opportunities through the creation of networks linking important industry sectors, including academia and R&D organizations, and engineering companies. And strive to implement the highest international standards in occupational health and safety, environment and quality. And create ample opportunities to work and contribute significantly to the national development.
The Membership is divided into various categories and this was discussed at the meeting. The Golden Anchor Partner Membership is open to Dubai Maritime City based company or Dubai and/or UAE registered company whose main business in the United Arab Emirates are Offshore & Engineering, Ship Repair & Maintenance, Shipbuilding & Conversion, Rig Building, Shipping and Chandlery, Yacht Manufacturing, Repair and Services. The Silver Anchor Partner Membership is open to Marine Engineering & Consultancy, Marine Services & Supply, Fuel Bunkering & Services, Vessel Sale & Chartering, Marine Legal Advisory, Ship Management & Services, Marina Design & Management, Marine Manpower Suppliers, Marine Banking & Consultancy, Vessel Scrapping Services and such other marine related equipment suppliers & services. In addition, there are other membership categories such as the Sea Blue Anchor, Associate Anchor and Honorary Anchor and are entitled to all rights and privileges of the Council but are not eligible to hold office or vote at the General Meeting.
