Rosvodresursy backs Bagayevsk hydrosystem project
Federal Water Resources Agency of Russia (Rosvodresursy) has supported the project of construction of hydro complex Bagaevsky, the agency official said.
Marina Seliverstova, General Director of the Rosvodresursy speaking at a meeting of the Rosmorrechflot’s Expert Council the project might enhance the Tsimljansky reservoir capabilities and could have a comprehensive economic effect, the PortNews correspondent reported.
The project has been supported by the National Chamber of Shipping.
According to Igor Zlobin, deputy head of the inland transport of Rosmorrechflot the project is urgent as the country’s inland shipping through the area is expected to total by 2020 at least 19.4 million tonnes of cargo, which is below 6.3 million tonnes of the network throughput capacity.
The Bagaevsky project is expected to be implemented by 2022. Payback period - 39 years.
The project "Development and Implementation of a Comprehensive Project for Reconstruction of the Azov-Don Basin, Phase 3 (Bagaevskii hydro complex)" is carried out as part of the Federal Target Program "Development of Transport System of Russia (2010 - 2020)", subprogram "Inland Waterways Transport”.
The area of Lower Don stretching from Kochetovsky hydroelectric complex to 3121-th km of the fairway - borders of the inland waterways of the Russian Federation is a bottleneck for water transport not only in the Southern Federal District but on the Unified Deep Water System of European Russia as well.
The channels are not deep enough for large cargo ships, which make up 75% of Russia’s fleet and carry about 85% of total exports / imports. As a result, the country’s fleet tonnage underutilization reaches some 2 million tonnes of cargo a year.
