Managing company of Arkhangelsk port’s deepwater district to be set up by year end
The managing company of Arkhangelsk seaport’s deepwater district is expected to be set up by the end of 2013, IAA PortNews learnt from Arkhangelsk Region Governor Igor Orlov at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2013. According to him, the project is connected with the construction of Belkomur railway, therefore potential investors are expecting certainty in this issue.
Earlier, within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2013, the Komi Republic, Perm Territory, Arkhangelsk Region and Murmansk Region sign a document on implementation of a comprehensive programme for industry and infrastructure development of Belkomur project under the principle of private-public partnership.
The deepwater district is to be built 55 km northward of the port territory which requires the construction of a railway line. The project provides for maximum draught of 11 m (today, the port of Arkhangelsk can handle vessels with the draught not exceeding 9 m) and potential throughput of 28 mln t including 3.5 mln t of coal, 17.5 mln t of containerized cargo and 2.5 mln t – liquid bulk cargo. Expected payback period of the project is 8 years.
