Russia offers Ust-Luga container terminal for Afghan transit
Russia has offered national Baltic ports, in particular, Ust-Luga container terminal, for transshipment of non-military cargoes of International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan (ISAF). According to the statement of RF Transport Ministry, it was discussed at the high level international conference “Arteries connecting the Heart of Asia to the Global World”. The Russian delegation was headed by the Deputy Transport Minister Sergey Aristov.
As it was marked, the transport infrastructure of the Russian Federation has sufficient transshipment, traffic and handling capacity for ISAF cargo transit.
The routes have been elaborated for ISAF cargo transportation via the territory of the Russian Federation with a comprehensive through logistic service to be provided by the consortium of the following Russian companies – Logistic operator LLC, Russian Railways OJSC, Volga-Dnepr Group, TransContainer OJSC, National Container Company LLC and with a possibility to store cargo up to 45 days at Ust-Luga port under current agreements with Maersk, APL and Hapag Lloyd lines. Ust-Luga container terminal is said to have a number of advantages against the port of Riga.
