Throughput of Oulu port (Finland) up 2.6% to 1.45 mln t Jan-May’13
In January-May 2013, the port of Oulu (Finland) handled 1.45 mln t of cargo (+2.6%, year-on-year). As IAA PortNews was informed at the port authority, the liquid fuel accounted for the highest growth in the import cargo sector (up 3.3 times to 107,900 tonnes). Total transshipment of import cargo climbed 12.1% to 650,430 tonnes, export – 6.5% to 636,400 tonnes including 57,040 tonnes of cellulose (+37.9%, year-on-year), 321,900 tonnes of paper (-7.3%), 71,800 tonnes of liquid chemicals (+20.9%).
In the 5-month period, the ports container throughput gained 10% to 19,042 TEUs.
The Port of Oulu is located in the North West of Finland near the Gulf of Bothnia (Baltic Sea). The port’s berths are in the harbors of Oritkari, Nuottasaari, Vihreäsaari and Toppila. The port specializes in handling exported paper and timber, imported petroleum products and raw materials for the local timber industry. In 2012, cargo throughput at the Port of Oulu remained nearly at about the same level of the previous year, making 3.55 mln t.
