Vienna to host O&G Supply Chain Management 2013, Oct. 16-18
Seeking to restore their companies' margins downstream, supply chain and logistics executives, heads and other top staff join senior commercial responsibles to link changing production, procurement and sourcing practice to business case at Oil & Gas Supply Chain Management 2013 to be held in Vienna, October 16-18, 2013, the Fleming Europe’s press release said.
With refining margins tight, consumption affected by the lingering financial crises and increasingly conservative regulation of fuel quality and emissions, the landscape for supply chain in the industry is under pressure to evolve.
Distance, rate, time, market price, all of us are grappling with these variables. Factoring in the economy, regulation and technology means that the supply chain game has high stakes. At one end of the spectrum speaking companies like Repsol YPF are dissecting practice in Cuba, Brazil and Angola, looking for increased efficiencies, while at the other end, Shell and OMV are fighting to innovate in Europe's stagnating refinery rector.
OMV's Head of Strategic Logistics, Andreas Witoszynsky, targets “Supply cost optimization and creating flexibility in supply chain infrastructure to support refinery utilization”. This key topic -among others- forces participants to address the fact that moving product, supporting logistic infrastructure and existing logistics models are all under considerable pressure. Thus, manipulating throughput storages, optimizing transport modes and building partnerships to facilitate flexibility are the tools identified by OMV's Witoszynsky as the keys to innovation.
Gas, gas continues to penetrate. Pipelines, storage...now LNG - even inland - applied as fuel is ready to compete with distillate fuel in heavy transport, yet even this innovation is reliant upon effective and efficient supply chain and logistic strategy. How will LNG play out in small scale applications both as fuel and cargo for road haulage and in shipping? Check progress on the Danube, where Manfred Seitz and his organisation Pro Danube International are working to reinvigorate both the Danube fleet, with LNG as fuel and the variety of its cargoes by shipping this future fuel to thirsty and cost sensitive transport networks along this natural logistics corridor.
Traditional gas supply, of course, remains critical for the region. Milan Sedláček , Head of Strategy and Regulation at Eustream Slovakia, as well as Gottfried Steiner, CEO at Central European Gas Hub speak on future transmission projects, as well as the evolution of trading at Gas Hubs and their intersection with the wider Oil and Gas Supply Chain. Also hear from Nabucco, OPEC and SOCAR.
Efficiency is the name of the game. Targeting supply chain and logistics costs is a deepening trend on the Upstream side as well. Baker Hughes' Elvind Borsheim delivers cost beneficial practice used in Oil Field services. Faced with long distance transport and PR sensitive operations in shale gas and deepwater sites, properly controling costs and operational effectiveness is an area where Borshiem shines.
All told, re-evaluating supply chain in the Oil & Gas Sector will go a long way towards providing improved margins for refiners and all subsequent downstream commercial efforts. Evaluate the mix of strategy, technology and innovation that is reshaping the business end of the European Oil and Gas market.
