Nuclear icebreaker Yamal reached North Pole-40 polar station
Nuclear icebreaker Yamal has reached the place of location of North Pole-40 polar station (NP-40). According to press center of FSUE Atomflot, the loading of NP-40 station and explorers will be started in the nearest time.
It took the icebreaker 7.5 days to get to the site. The average speed was 8 knots.
When evacuated, the researches will return to Murmansk. Part of the expedition plans to land at Baranov cape of Bolshevik peninsula.
The decision on evacuation of the drifting research station was taken on May 23 after the ice floe destruction on May 6-8. Nuclear icebreaker Yamal was left the port of registration at night of May31/June 1.
