Throughput of Riga port (Latvia) down 8.8% to 14.3 mln t Jan-May’13
In January-May 2013, the port of Riga (Latvia) handled 14,336,900 tonnes of cargo (-8.8%, year-on-year), IAA PortNews learnt from the Port Authority. In the reported period, transshipment of coal fell 14.4% to 5,542,800 tonnes, oil products – 10.9% to 3,361,800 tonnes, wood chips – 9.5% to 417,500 tonnes, grain – 80.2% to 58,700 tonnes. Transshipment of chemical cargo surged 31.7% to 674,700 tonnes.
The Port’s container throughput climbed 4.5% to 151,000 171 TEUs. Transshipment of Ro-Ro cargo gained 1% to 243,300 tonnes.
Freeport of Riga lies on both banks of the River Daugava covering 6.3 hectares. The port’s berth length is 13,800 meters, maximum draft at the berths is 12.2 meters. Up to 80% of the Freeport of Riga cargo turnover is made up of transit cargoes forwarded to or received from the CIS countries. In 2012, Freeport of Riga increased its throughput by 5.8%, year-on-year, to 36,051,900 tonnes of cargo.
