Throughput of Odessa Commercial Sea Port (Ukraine) down 21.6% to 8.9 mln t Jan-May’13
In January-May 2013, Odessa Commercial Sea Port handled 8,910,600 tonnes of cargo (-21.6%, year-on-year), the stevedore’s press center states.
According to the statement, the decrease is attributable mainly to the shift of Kazakh transit crude and oil products to Russian ports. In May, the port handled 203,800 tonnes of cargo against 794,700 tonnes handled in May of the previous year.
In general, the fall of 5-month transshipment of liquid bulk cargo made 2,199,100 tonnes, dry bulk cargo - 259,500 tonnes. Container throughput reached 2,464,500 tonnes (24%), transshipment of iron ore concentrate made 1,212,500 tonnes (+38.7%), liquefied gas - 400,800 tonnes (+27%).
Odessa Commercial Sea Port operates in one of the largest ports of the Black-Azov Sea Basin. Technical facilities of the port allow to handle more than 14 million tonnes of dry cargoes and 24 million tonnes of liquid cargoes annually. The port’s passenger terminal accepts vessels of up to 300 meters in length. In 2012, throughput of Odessa Commercial Sea Port fell by 4.3%, year-on-year, to 24.5 mln tonnes.
