Throughput of Tallinn port down 8.9% to 12.6 mln t Jan-May’13
In January-May, 2013, the port of Tallinn handled 12.6 mln t of cargo (-8.9%, year-on-year), the port authority says. In May, the port’s throughput fell 13.4% to 2.3 mln t.
In the 5-month period, transshipment of liquid bulk cargo totaled 8.9 mln t (-5%). Container throughput climbed 7.5% to 106,071 TEUs.
From the beginning of the year the port serviced 3.238 mln passengers (+3.7%). 847 cargo vessels and 1,978 passenger vessels called on the port in January-May, 2013.
The port of Tallinn is the forth largest port in the Baltic sea after the ports of St. Petersburg, Primorsk and Ust-Luga. It comprises four port areas: Muuga, Old City Harbour, Paljassaare, Paldiski South and Saaremaa. In 2012, the port’s throughput fell by 19.2% to 27.4 mln tonnes.
