Abu Dhabi Ports Company Traffic safety campaign reaches 2,000 truck drivers
A campaign to raise awareness of safer driving practices in and around Khalifa Port and Kizad industrial zone has been hailed a success after reaching over 2000 truck drivers and transport managers in the region, said in the company's press release.
‘Be aware, drive with care’ was organized by ADPC, a master developer and manager of both commercial and community ports, and owner of the Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi (Kizad). It was run in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate and the Emirates Driving Company.
The campaign was about raising awareness of the safety regulations for driving in, and beyond, ADPC’s ports. The truck drivers taking part could watch videos showing best practice examples and ways to avoid accidents and hazards while driving, enhancing the safety of the drivers themselves and all around them.
The presentations which were being given in English, Urdu, Pashtu and Arabic were being delivered at Khalifa Port, alongside the documentation office – an easy location for drivers passing through the area. After the presentations, drivers had the chance to try out two simulators – one demonstrating the importance of wearing a seatbelt in a collision and the other giving the ‘driver’ the full experience of a 180 degree roll in a car. Transport managers were invited to attend a focused workshop looking at safety issues and fleet management. Overall feedback from both the drivers and transport managers taking part has been very positive.
Capt. Shamisi Acting CEO, Abu Dhabi Ports Company, ADPC commented:
“The safety of our staff and those around us is a top consideration for all of us at ADPC. Through this campaign we have been able to talk to more than 400 drivers each day, which means by the end of the week we will have reached out to around 2000 people. That will certainly have a positive impact on the driving practices in and around Khalifa Port and Kizad industrial zone.
“We would like to thank the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate and the Emirates Driving School for their input and support, the feedback from the drivers has been very positive. It’s really made them think about their actions and examine their driving practices.”
Lieutenant Colonel Jamal Salem Al Ameri, Chief of Public Relations Section in the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police, Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate added: “The Emirate of Abu Dhabi is witnessing rapid growth across various economic sectors, which is contributing to an unprecedented increase in traffic throughout the Emirate. As a result, campaigns such as this are important to ensure smooth traffic flow and improved traffic safety”.
