Throughput of Arkhangelsk seaport up 17.7% to 1.47 mln t in Jan-Apr’13
In January-April, 2013, seaport of Arkhangelsk handled 1.47 mln t of cargo (+17.7%, year-on-year), IAA PortNews learnt from the port authority. In the accounting period, transshipment of oil product boosted 1.5 times to 891,200 tonnes, coal – 1.67 times to 154,900 tonnes while timber transshipment fell by 17% to 116,300 tonnes.
The port of Arkhangelsk is the largest seaport in the Northern region of Russia. It was set up over 400 years ago in the estuary of the Severnaya Dvina flowing into the White Sea. The port provides round-the-year navigation. Ice situation in the White Sea is similar to that of the Gulf of Finland and icebreaking assistance is usually provided from mid January till mid April.
Seaport of Arkhangelsk accepts vessels of up to 9.2 meters in drauhgt, up to 175 meters long and up to 30 meters wide. The port comprises 151 berths with a total length of 17,548 meters, including 31 berths of timber industry companies, 22 berths of sea trade port, 6 berths of the river port, 3 berths of Rosneft-Arkhangelsknefteproduct OJSC engaged in export of oil and oil products, 2 berths of the fishing port and 87 minor berths of other companies. In 2012, the port of Arkhangelsk handled 5.58 mln t of cargo.
