Shell to supply LNG bunkers in Great Lakes
Energy giant Shell is to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunker in the Great Lakes, and will be the exclusive supplier of shipper Interlake Steamship Company (Interlake), the shipper says.
Interlake is converting its ships to run on the fuel, and plans to convert the first vessel by the spring of 2015.
The company says it expects its ships to be the first of their kind to operate on the Great Lakes.
"This move takes our dedication to environmental stewardship to the next level," said Mark Barker, president of Interlake.
Shell said it plans to install a small-scale liquefaction unit capable of producing 250,000 tonnes per annum of LNG in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada, with Interlake as its first customer.
