Throughput of Klaipeda Port (including Butinges terminal) up 10.1% to 15.29 mln t in Jan-Apr’13
In January-April 2013, throughput of Klaipeda Port (including Butinges terminal) increased by 10.1%, year-on-year, to 15.285 mln t, IAA PortNews learnt from the port authority. The port throughput without Butinges terminal climbed by 8.1% to 12.087 mln t.
Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo grew by 11.1% to 7.140 mln t, dry loose and bulk cargo – by 21.3% to 4.733 mln t, general cargo – fell by 4.2% to 3.410 mln t. Transshipment of Ro-Ro cargo totaled 1.525 mln t (-0.3%). Container throughput made 129,839 TEUs (+7.4%).
In the accounting period, the port was visited by 75,500 passengers (-7.2%). Total number of calls fell by 4.6% to 2,114.
Klaipeda State Seaport is the northernmost ice–free port on the Eastern coast of the Baltic Sea. It is the most important and biggest Lithuanian transport hub, connecting sea, land and railway routes from East to West. The port’s throughput (including Butinge terminal) made 43.761 mln t in 2012.
