Throughput of HaminaKotka port up 6.4% to 4.9 mln t in Jan-Apr’13
In January-April 2013, the port of HaminaKotka (Finalnd) handled 4.940 mln t of cargo (+6.4%, year-on-year), states the port authority.
Transshipment of export cargo increased by 6.4%. Export of dry bulk cargo grew by 79.4%, paper – by 11.6%, cellulose – by 21.3%. Import turnover climbed by 6.5%. Internal transportation fell by 6.1%. The volume of container transportation grew by 4.9%. Transshipment of automobiles surged by 33.4% to 39,260 units.
The Port of HaminaKotka Ltd is the biggest universal, export and transshipment port in Finland. Finland’s ports of Kotka (stevedoring company Kotkan Satama Oy) and Hamin (Haminan Satama Oy) merged on May 1, 2011. In 2012, throughput of the joined port fell by 9.6% to 14.521 mln tonnes.
The Port of Kotka is some 50 km from the Russian border, 280 km from St. Petersburg and 1,000 km from Moscow. Port of Kotka comprises ports of Mussalo, Hietanen, Kantasatama, berth Puolanlaituri (Polish berth), berth Halla, and also port premises Sunila. Port of Hamina is the eastern port of Finland located 35 km from the Russian border.
