Putin says Gazprom, Japan could cooperate in LNG carriers construction in Far East
President Vladimir Putin supports the cooperation of state-owned gas giant Gazprom with Japan for construction of joint shipyards in Russia’s Far East to build LNG carriers, Russian President said after talks with Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
“Russia has such hydrocarbons reserves that they can allow Russia to meet Japan's demand without affecting our long-standing partners and domestic needs… We are the neighbors, and from the point of view of logistics, geographical proximity such cooperation would be logical, understandable and effective. This might be a joint production of hydrocarbons, the joint construction of liquefaction plants,” the Kremlin press service quoted Putin as saying.
"Gazprom is ready to invest its resources in new facilities for the acceptance of natural gas in Japan, in gas pipeline systems in Japan… In this regard, we can work together in the field of shipbuilding, namely for the construction of facilities in the Far East to build tankers for the delivery of liquefied natural gas to our Japanese partners," Vladimir Putin said.
