Feasibility of building shipyards in FE and on Kotlin island to be discussed with Vladimir Putin and Igor Sechin in May
A meeting initiated by the head of Rosneft Igor Sechin and dedicated to feasibility of building shipyards in the Far East (on the base of Zvezda shipyard) and on Kotlin island (Kronshtadt, St. Petersburg) will be held on May 6, 2013 with the participation Igor Sechin and RF Presidend Vladimir Putin. As IAA PortNews journalist reports, this has been announced today at the round table meeting “Russian shipbuilding: industry up or down?” by Aleksandr Voznesensky, Director General of Baltiysky Zavod – Shipbuilding OJSC (part of OSK, St. Petersburg), ex-Director General of the managing company on construction of New-Admiralty shipyard.
He reminded that earlier Kronshtadt project was suspended but the discussion has been resumed.
“The project was closed within the United Shipbuilding Corporation as the demand for gas carriers was not obvious”, Voznesensky added.
According to the speaker, Rosneft has recently expressed the opinion that resources allocated for fleet construction should not go to foreign shipyards. So Rosneft is willing to resume consideration of building new shipyards in Russia and to discuss the support to Zvezda project.
