Second line of Nizhne-Svirsky hydrosystem to be built in HI’2016 – Aleksandr Davydenko
The delivery of the second line of Nizhne-Svirsky hydrosystem is scheduled for 2016, by the beginning of the navigation period, Aleksandr Davydenko, head of Rosmorrechflot, said while observing the works on the project implementation, IAA PortNews journalist reports.
Davydenko noted that the work was arranged adequately.
Speaking about the delivery by the navigation of 2016, Vladimir Nikolayev, head of Volga-Balt Administration, named this task to be “an incredibly demanding and interesting challenge”.
The project’s primary tasks are to remove infrastructure barriers for the growth of cargo and passenger flows along the Volga-Baltic Waterway as well as to improve competitiveness of the water route; to develop highly profitable transit transportation by international transport corridor North-South; to remove the limiting part of Volga-Baltic Waterway; to intensify cargo and passenger transportation; to improve navigation safety.
The project’s financing exceeds RUB 10 bln. In 2013, some RUB 4.969 bln was allocated for the completion of project works.
The construction is being carried out in compliance with the federal special purpose programme “Development of Russia’s transport system (2010-2015)”, subprogram “Inland water ways”.
Nizhne-Svirsky lock was built in 1933. It is the narrowest place at the Volga-Baltic Waterway.
