Throughput of Ust-Luga Container Terminal (ULCT, Leningrad region, NCC) may boost over 10-fold to 50,000-60,000 TEUs in 2013, the Terminal’s Director General Andrey Bogdanov told German reporters on their visit to ULCT. Presently the Terminal is capable of handling 440,000 TEUs.
Andrey Bogdanov explained that “effect of low cargo base” has a negative impact on the cargo flow. However, ULCT administration is satisfied with high growth rates of container flow.
“Our plans are destined to be realized though later than we hoped,” Bogdanov said.
He reminded that the investor plans to build the second and the third phase of ULCT with total capacity exceeding 2.8 mln TEUs.
“We are busy with attracting new customers, Andrey Bogdanov said. – With the completion of the new highway being built from Ust-Luga port to Tallinn highway (М-10) we expect to see a considerable growth of the terminal turnover”.
AS IAA PortNews reported earlier, the construction of this highway is to be completed by the end of 2013.
