Sakhalin authorities determined to promote construction of second LNG plant
The authorities of the Sakhalin region are determined for “persistent and sustainable” promotion of an idea on the construction of the second LNG plant on the island. According to the press center of the regional government, Aleksandr Khoroshavin, the Governor, said this at the meeting with Neil W. Duffin, President of ExxonMobil Development Company.
The Governor emphasized at the meeting that Sakhalin authorities are especially interested in establishment of new production facilities in the region.
“I know that ExxonMobil and Rosneft signed a Memorandum of Understanding and formed a joint working group to jointly study the economic viability of an LNG development in the Russian Far East. Sakhalin is being considered as a possible ground and it is the subject of my continued focus. The regional government is especially interested in establishment of new production facilities in the region. For us it means generation of new work places and improved standard of living for the Sakhalin residents. I think we deserve the location of LNG plant on Sakhalin and we will ensure persistent and sustainable promotion of this idea,” Aleksandr Khoroshavin said.
Exxon is implementing Sakhalin-1 project which brought RUB 14 bln of tax and non-tax revenues in 2012.
