75 vessels of Norwegian ship owners run on LNG fuel
The number of LNG-powered vessels operated by Norwegian ship owners reached 75 units, mostly ferries, Ro-Pax vessels, tankers and tug-boats. This was announced by Tommy Johnsen, Head of Norwegian NOx Fund, at Helsinki conference dedicated to alternative marine fuels, IAA PortNews journalist reports.
According to Tommy Johnsen, 12 LNG-powered vessels were put into operation in 2012 while in 2008 there were only 3 vessels of this type.
Tommy Johnsen says this growth is, in particular, driven by the support of Norwegian NOx Fund covering 80% of ship owners’ investments into the use of alternative ship fuel.
The prospects of LNG as ship fuel in Russia market will be covered by the 6th All-Russia Forum “Current state and prospects of Russiam bunkering market development” scheduled for June 27-28, 2013 in St. Petersburg.
